Richard Wilson - Drum Tutor and owner of RAW Studios
Richard started playing drums/percussion at the age of nine while at middle school. Soon after he joined a local marching band where he played snare drum. Richard soon progressed to be lead snare in the band and around this time he started to take lessons on the drum kit and started to do some local shows and formed a band at high school. He carried on with his studies and moved onto another marching band where he soon became the percussion writer and instructor. Whilst a member in this band he played at venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, Wembley arena and also the NEC in Birmingham several times. Richard entered the British Youth Band individual contest and won the solo snare prize three times, twice at under eighteen level and once at under twenty five level. During all this he was still continuing paid work playing shows and gigs in pubs and clubs etc.
In 1996 Richard joined a Drum corps where he played in the snare line, winning the Drum Corps UK high drums award in 1997. Around this period he was also teaching drum lessons on a private basis and started doing sessions with local bands in the studio. About this time Richard took up the offer of taking the drum seat in a big band of which he is still a member today playing numbers by some of the great musicians of all time:
Chick Corea
Maynard Ferguson
Buddy Rich
Stan Kenton
This is great for Richard as he gets to play pieces originally performed by some of the great all time drummers
At the moment Richard has an endorsement with Trueline drumsticks and is fast becoming one of the best tutors in the North of England and, along with the rest of his staff, have an ever growing list of private students. Richard is also doing some touring and recording with a number of bands and artists and is actively involved in giving workshops and master classes to local youngsters in the hope of inspiring them to grow as musicians.
This is what drumming legend
Dom Famularo has to say about Richard:
"I am very inspired by certain drummers that are dedicated, hard working and excellent musicians! Then add on top of that a strong desire to teach and you have the complete musician! Richard Wilson is this person! In our lessons together Rich sets a new standard for himself to reach higher all the time! He inspires people every day! This is a strong commitment to positive change! This is what is needed more in drumming and in life! Rich...keep going!"

David Richards
I have been playing Drum Kit and Orchestral Percussion for over 20 years, and have been teaching privately for more than ten years. During this time I have played a wide range of musical styles including Orchestral; windband; brass band; cabaret; big band jazz and musical theatre.
In 1998 I qualified from University of Wales Institute Cardiff as a Primary School teacher, and it was while I was studying for my degree that I started teaching drum kit and percussion both privately and as a peripatetic tutor for the Caerphilly County Music Service. Since taking up my first teaching post I have continued to fit private tuition and peripatetic work around a full time class teaching career, most recently holding the post of Orchestral Percussion tutor with the CAVMS Orchestra in Cardiff.
I have recently moved to West Yorkshire where I work as a supply teacher, this allows me time to concentrate on developing my teaching as well as my own performance.
As a qualified teacher I am registered with the Department of Education and Skill and the General Teaching Council for England; and have an up to date Criminal Records Bureau certificate for working with children.
As well as offering tuition on Drum Kit, I am qualified to provide tuition in all areas of Orchestral and Brass Band Percussion, including Tuned Percussion and Timpani. All tuition is tailored to the needs and level of experience of the individual pupil.

I know when the music is going to move, I know when the band is going to move and anticipating and capturing those moments is a joy..."
